Just twenty-two exceptional homes - sixteen elegant contemporary townhouses and six spacious apartments - each designed to the highest calibre specifications and close to the heart of Clerkenwell. Clerkenwell is the home of new ways of thinking whether we are talking art or cuisine - and indeed as the birthplace of the loft living concept in the UK - even of entire lifestyles. It is where creative meets City and media meets corporate - and the result is something altogether unique.

Cromwell Place offers an enviable lifestyle that combines the luxury of superb style and space at home, with surroundings defined by cosmopolitanism and the cutting edge. With its strikingly different look and feel, Cromwell Place is making its mark - and has been designed for those who believe in making theirs.

The successful have long been drawn to Clerkenwell - back in the 17th Century it was a fashionable place to live for the affluent, and a place to find refined leisure pursuits at premises from tea gardens to spas and theatres. Unlike many parts of the capital that have lost their character and identity, Clerkenwell Green and St James' Church that were at the heart of the old village still lend a focal core as well as an unexpected air of a rural village to this most vibrant of urban villages.

In more recent years the appeal of Clerkenwell soared as it became a magnet for those seeking a location a walk from the City as well as becoming a dynamic hub of offices and workplaces, ateliers and workplaces in its own right. Cromwell Place brings exciting new homes to Woodbridge Street, from lateral living in the one and two bedroom apartments, to a contemporary take on townhouse living - each one created with an uncompromising approach to quality and finish.

Regeneration of the site

As well as specialising in building prestigious homes, for the past eight years George Wimpey North Thames has been engaged in an ambitious project to relocate three Islington schools at a minimal cost to the public.

The Bridge School Project is one of the largest social regeneration schemes to take place in Islington, turning poorly provided for special needs schools into centres of excellence and providing more than 150 new homes on their former sites.

On the site of the former secondary school in Woodbridge Street, George Wimpey is constructing 22 homes, a mixture of two and three-bedroom townhouses and one and two-bedroom apartments.

"This will be an architecturally dynamic development, quite unique to the area, and we believe it will attract a great deal of interest. The scheme has been designed to avoid building over the listed underground vaults, which were once part of the Victorian Clerkenwell House of Detention. As a result we have had to work very closely with English Heritage regarding the Archaeological investigations they required."
